THAT'S a wrap ladies and gentlemen, the season is done and dusted. As per usual, it was a rollercoaster of emotions with plenty of highs and lows and the players certainly produced some big scores to ensure we all finished on a high … apart from those losing their Grand Finals in some horror story nail biters. On that note, would you believe the race for the car finished on a draw as Seb Ross scored 122 as the only unique player in the last game to tie it up. Selby’s quest for back to back now comes down to a countback.

Fantasy Pig

Jack Macrae is already in future Pig conversation and he did his chances of being snouted no harm with a thumping performance in the Grand Final round. The Dogs superstar scored a round-high 190 against the Tigers after collecting 43 possessions, laying seven tackles and kicking a goal, but it was his marking that was the highlight, taking a whopping 14.

Honourable mention: Patrick Dangerfield continued his outstanding form and took full advantage of the mouth-watering match-up with the Suns at the Cattery. The DPP was a constant threat in front of goal, finishing with 4.3 to go with 34 possessions, nine marks and three tackles for 158 in one of the most dominant individual performances for the season.

Season MVP

Tom Mitchell did it again, reinforcing the fact he is a genuine Pig. He had another sensational season despite copping more attention from taggers, going on to average 129 points for the year. It is hard to understand how he isn’t in every team, but remarkably 29 per cent of coaches must have had a horrible time watching the Hawks play. His season was highlighted by an impressive score of 195 and his asking price next year is going to leave coaches with a big decision to make.

Piglet of the Year

Tim Kelly is an absolute star and like many coaches, I am still scratching my head as to why I traded him out. In fact, 26 per cent of coaches managed to hold him as the rest of us were scrambling to get all the rookies off our ground. Meanwhile, Kelly was going to work, eventually averaging 87 for the year and over 90 for the past five weeks. His price increased by a massive $381,000 and he contributed nicely in the GF with a score of 116.

Just go for the best, filling gaps with sub-premium players just derails your season. This may mean playing a rookie for an extra week here and there but in the long run it will pay off.
