The 2022 NAB AFLW Finals Series Season 7 will feature eight teams in a four-week finals format for the first time – emulating the structure of the AFL Finals.

Minor premiers the Brisbane Lions will play Richmond in the First Qualifying Final, with the winner progressing through to the preliminary finals.

Second-placed Melbourne will host the Adelaide Crows in a Season Six Grand Final rematch on Friday night at IKON Park.

Richmond secured a double chance following their nail-biting Round 10 draw with North Melbourne, which saw them finish fourth.

Richmond will play in their first AFLW Finals Series, while the Geelong Cats host will host North Melbourne on Saturday night at GMHBA Stadium.

On Sunday, Collingwood will host the 2018 AFLW Premiers the Western Bulldogs in the Second Elimination Final at Victoria Park.

AFL Executive General Manager Clubs, Finance and Broadcasting Travis Auld said the NAB AFLW Finals Series Season 7 would be a fitting conclusion to an “exceptional” season.

“Season Seven was the first time we had all 18 clubs and the standard of football has been exceptional, capped off with a terrific final round,” Auld said.

“The games across Round 10 were a testament to the competitiveness of the top eight, with a thrilling draw and first and second place determined by .3 percentage points. We’re set for an exciting Finals series with the best eight teams vying for the ultimate success – the AFLW Premiership.

“To all 18 clubs, 540 players, tens of thousands of members, umpires, coaches, venues, broadcast and commercial partners – thank you for your support across the home and away season.”

AFL General Manager of Women’s Football Nicole Livingstone OAM said the league was proud of the achievements on and off the field across the AFLW home and away season.

“The inaugural AFLW season in 2017 had 28 home and away matches and one final; This season, we’ve completed 90 matches and are about to embark on nine finals,” Livingstone said.

“Now, we have eight teams with one dream – lifting the Premiership Cup on the last weekend of November.

“The home and away season epitomised the very best elements of AFLW. On the field, we’ve seen the exceptional skills of the competition’s best players, along with the emergence of our rising stars who have come through the talent pathways.

“The league is proud of the cultural influence the AFLW brings off the field, with Season Seven continuing to promote inclusivity and change perceptions. AFLW has provided visibility and opportunities to women, girls, boys, the LGBTIQ+ community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across the country.

“I can’t wait for the Finals Series and I look forward to seeing all our supporters over the next four weeks.”
