Technology to allow Power and Crows fans to virtually experience the view from their seats at the new Adelaide Oval
ADELAIDE Oval is the first venue in the Southern Hemisphere to utilise cutting-edge technology to allow spectators to virtually preview the seat they're buying.
A joint initiative between Adelaide, Port Adelaide and the AFL, the Virtual Venue technology means the public is able to preview real-life views from almost every seat at Adelaide Oval.
The technology is used by some of the world's largest sporting organisations, including the New York Yankees and New York Knicks.
Given the Adelaide Oval redevelopment is still more than six months from completion, the technology allows potential members to lock in their seats with confidence.
At a launch also attended by Adelaide CEO Steven Trigg and South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill, Port Adelaide chief Keith Thomas said Virtual Adelaide Oval took "some of the fear" out of buying tickets or memberships when the stadium itself is unfinished.
"We knew this was going to be a world-class stadium and the experience once the supporter got in there was going to be outstanding, the problem was it was going to be in build phase," Thomas said.
"The opportunity to experience the ground from a realistic point of view was going to be very difficult ... we think this technology is just fantastic for that."
