FORMER Gold Coast coach Guy McKenna has expressed his interest in becoming Carlton's next coach.
McKenna, who steered the Suns from their inception in the TAC Cup in 2009 until he was sacked at the end of 2014, said he still has the passion to reignite his coaching career.
McKenna is listed at $12 to be the Blues' new coach by the AFL's official betting partner, Crownbet, and he said he would certainly take the phone call from president Mark LoGuidice if it were to come.
"You wouldn't say no, that's for sure," McKenna told Channel 7 on Sunday.
"I look at them from afar and I don't see what they're about to go through as any different to what Gold Coast [went through].
"Gold Coast was a blank canvas, I understand that. Carlton has got this magnificent history. But where they're at, the bonus for me going into that role is that I'd have a lot more senior players around me."
The Blues, who have had four new coaches since their last premiership in 1995, have committed to using a largely independent sub-committee to recommend Mick Malthouse's permanent replacement.
McKenna said he had not been perturbed by how his coaching stint ended at the Suns.
"I haven't been soured or embittered by the (Gold Coast) experience," he said.
"I think I'd be better placed and more educated the second time around."
Meanwhile, McKenna does not believe there is a cultural problem at the Suns despite a number of players being disciplined for breaking team protocols this season.
Young Suns Charlie Dixon and Jack Martin were banned for one match for drinking alcohol the day before their side's clash against Hawthorn in round nine.
In early May, Gold Coast banned Harley Bennell, Brandon Matera, Trent McKenzie and Danny Stanley for breaching team rules around drinking prior to a game.
The Suns have a zero-tolerance alcohol policy under coach Rodney Eade.
