CYRIL Rioli is still under an injury cloud after he trained away from Hawthorn's main group on Thursday morning.

Eight days out from Hawthorn's preliminary final, the star small forward was restricted to boxing activities on the outer edge of Waverley Park with his right ankle heavily strapped.

His teammates took part in a comprehensive hit-out.

Rioli was named to play against the Sydney Swans in last week's qualifying final but was a late withdrawal.

He's now missed two matches after rolling his ankle in round 22 against North Melbourne.

On Wednesday the Hawks declared the 24-year-old was on track to play.

"Having a bit of extra time now to get ready for our next game is of benefit to Cyril," football boss Chris Fagan told hawthornfc.com.au.

"It should allow him time to be right to play," he said.

Defender Brian Lake took part in training, despite being spotted getting scans earlier in the week.

The Hawks will play the winner of Friday night's semi-final between Geelong and Port Adelaide next week.
