CARLTON has focused on adding a more attacking edge to its game-plan this pre-season as it seeks to bolster its scoring, Blues ruckman Matthew Kreuzer says.

In Brendon Bolton's first two years as coach, Carlton has been a tough team to score against, but has struggled to score itself.

In 2016, the Blues were second last in the competition in scoring (71.3 points a game) and they slipped to last in 2017 (72.5).

Kreuzer told SEN radio on Thursday morning the Blues were looking to score more in 2018.

"We're just working on our attacking style a little bit," Kreuzer said of the Blues' pre-season focus.

"The last couple of years we've been good at the defence but we haven't been scoring enough, so we're just trying to find ways to tinker with that.

"I think we've got the players there to do that."

Kreuzer, 28, has joined Carlton's leadership group this year and is now one of the senior hands at Ikon Park.

The Blues have invested heavily in the past three NAB AFL drafts and Kreuzer believes the club has assembled a talented and well-balanced young group.

"It is very exciting to sit back at training and look at all the young kids getting around. The tricks they've got these days are pretty impressive," he said.

"The good thing is we've got a good balance of players with Charlie (Curnow) and Harry (McKay) up forward, 'Samo' (Sam Petrevski-Seton) in the middle, and Paddy Dow and Lochie O'Brien this year are going to really help us too."
