GOLD Coast is investigating the patron who voiced his anger following the Suns' 73-point loss to Melbourne on Saturday night.
After a week in which his on-field leadership was called into question, Gold Coast captain Gary Ablett needed to act as a peacemaker to deal with the disgruntled fan after the loss.
As players gathered together to leave Metricon Stadium, a calm Ablett walked to the race and asked the vociferous supporter to do likewise, gesturing with his hands as he called for cool heads.
A Suns spokesman told AFL.com.au the club was now investigating the patron and gathering all the available information.
The spokesman added that the spectator was escorted from the area after using inappropriate language in his tirade.
The Suns also released a statement on Sunday afternoon to confirm the developments.
"The club is investigating an incident that took place after the game that involved a patron near the player interchange bench," the club said.
"Whilst supporting your team and being emotionally invested in the match is a vital part of the game, the club will protect the family friendly environment we have and our members expect at Metricon Stadium.
"Customers must adhere to the entry terms and conditions of Metricon Stadium for all events at the venue and in addition the club has a member code of conduct that members and their guests need to comply with to ensure our family friendly environment is preserved."
After the game, Ablett weighed in to the incident.
"Supporters turn up every week to support us", Ablett told Fox Footy.
"When you put in a performance like that you expect (to cop some criticism)."
The 31-year-old added he was concerned about children in the vicinity of the altercation.
It did not appear the anger of the fan was directed at Ablett himself, but at the team that has capitulated twice in successive weeks.
The Brownlow medallist and undisputed great of the game was again not at his best on the field, but still gathered 22 disposals and kicked two goals.
