Round 1: Collingwood v Adelaide, MCG (Home), Saturday 2:10 pm
History suggests Collingwood will have the upper hand in their first game of the season. Adelaide’s form towards the end of the 2008 season would concern the visitors. The Crows record at the MCG is a positive one over the last two years with three wins from five matches.

Round 2: Collingwood v Melbourne, MCG (Home), Saturday 2:10 pm
A team that managed only three wins and finished at the bottom of the ladder has a lot to prove in 2009 and will be a good test for the Magpies. Both sides generally put on a good contest regardless of where they sit on the ladder.

Round 3: Geelong v Collingwood, MCG (Away), Thursday 7:40 pm
Collingwood was the only team to beat the minor premiers during the season and a Thursday night encounter should produce a massive crowd. A great opportunity for the Magpies to gauge where their early form stands.

Round 4: Brisbane v Collingwood, Gabba (Away), Friday 7:40 pm
The first interstate match for Collingwood will be played on Friday night. Last year the Magpies lost by two points on a Friday night in wet conditions at the Gabba.

Round 5: Essendon, MCG (Away), Saturday 2:10 pm
Anzac Day is always a big clash between the rivals. The outcome will depend on what form Essendon bring to the competition in 2009 but supporters are guaranteed an intense contest.

Round 6: North Melbourne, Etihad Stadium (Away), Friday 7:40 pm
First game at the newly renamed Etihad Stadium on Friday night against the Magpies’ bogey side of the competition.

Round 7: St Kilda, Etihad Stadium (Home), Monday 7:20 pm
Only game against the Saints who saw their club champion retire at the end of the 2008 season. Magpies will want revenge against the team that knocked them out of the finals.

Round 8: Carlton, MCG (Home), Sunday 2:10 pm
The Blues had the Magpies’ number last season with two wins. Collingwood will look to even the ledger on Sunday.

Round 9: West Coast Eagles, Subiaco Oval (Away), Saturday 5:40 pm
The second interstate match of the season pits the Magpies against a side in rebuilding since the departure of Chris Judd and Ben Cousins. Will be a good test for Collingwood’s ruckmen against the best in the competition, Dean Cox.

The Queen’s Birthday game is always a grand affair. The Magpies will know what to expect from the Demons after playing them in round two.

Collingwood has a strong record against Sydney with four wins from their last four encounters. Both teams will be fresh after having the week off from the split round.

The final interstate trip for Collingwood before the finals.

The only match of the season between the two big clubs. Outcome could hinge on where the Tigers are placed on the ladder.
