The AFL wishes to advise the Match Review Panel has reviewed the final match played in Round Eight. The following charge was laid:

Charges Laid:

Mitch Robinson, Carlton, has been charged with a Level Three Striking Offence (225 demerit points, two-match sanction) for striking Jack Newnes, St Kilda, during the third quarter of the Round Eight match between Carlton and St Kilda, played at Etihad Stadium on Monday May 12, 2014.

In summary, he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the St Kilda Football Club, the incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), medium impact (two points) and high contact (two points). This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Three Offence, drawing 225 demerit points and a two-match sanction. He has no existing good or bad record. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 168.75 demerit points and a one-match sanction.

Other Incidents Assessed:

Contact between Carlton’s Marc Murphy and St Kilda’s Nick Riewoldt from the third quarter of Monday’s match was assessed. The ball was kicked towards a contest on the wing area. Riewoldt flies for the ball and attempts to mark, and the ball falls loose to the ground. Riewoldt is moving towards the ball and bends to take possession, while Murphy comes from the side and is moving towards the ball. As Riewoldt is bending down, he is pushed by his opponent Sam Rowe into the path of Murphy. It was the view of the panel the contact was caused by circumstances outside the control of player Murphy which could not be reasonably foreseen by him. No further action was taken.

Contact between Carlton’s Simon White and St Kilda’s Luke Dunstan from the third quarter of Monday’s match was assessed. Chris Yarran has the ball and is preparing to kick up the ground out of Carlton’s defence. White is running to make position on the wing and possibly contest the ball, while Dunstan is tracking his opponent Troy Menzel as the pair are moving towards the centre. As Dunstan turns to follow his opponent, he steps into the path of the approaching White and contact is made. It was the view of the panel that the contact was deemed accidental and was not reportable. No further action was taken.
