TEAMS: VFLW Round 3

The teams are in for all matches in Round 3 of the rebel VFLW.

Good Friday football takes on a new look, with no less than 16 players to pull on their club’s guernseys for the first time.

The biggest switch comes from Williamstown midfielder and best-and-fairest winner Ruby Tripodi, who has traded the yellow sash for royal blue and white stripes after being picked up by North Melbourne in Wednesday’s AFLW Supplementary Draft on the back of a starring role for the Seagulls against the Kangaroos only last week.

She will slot straight into Marianna Anthony’s position in North’s clash with the Western Bulldogs at ETU Stadium after Anthony was drafted by Carlton and also moved north across town.

The Seagulls themselves have made seven changes to the team that lost to the Roos for their big game against arch-rival Port Melbourne, with Coburg signings Sophie Damon and Natasha Phipps and Williamstown CYMS’ Sarah Thomas to all debut for the club. Collingwood recruit Danika Pederson will start her second stint at DSV Stadium.

Port Melbourne will unveil Richmond AFLW signing Steph Williams, who crosses from Geelong, plus youngster Ruby Dale, while key players Jorja Livingstone and Maddi Shaw also return, but Kate Adams is injured and star recruit Federica Frew also goes out.

Port draftee Dom Carruthers plays her first game and AFL Sydney recruit Kyla Tracey also makes her debut for the Bulldogs as they aim to break a 16-match losing streak.

Casey Demons have rung the changes from their record-breaking win over Darebin, with Melbourne AFLW premiership players Eliza West, Maeve Chaplin, Tahlia Gillard and Sinead Goldrick all to miss the home game against Collingwood, with Charlotte Wilson (Carlton AFLW), Kara Henderson (Hawthorn) and Kaitlyn Carew (Williamstown) to all become Demons for the first time.

The Magpies have boosted their team, with AFLW draftees Eleri Morris and Selena Karlson to debut alongside Emily Shepherd and Alyssa Weston, but Nic Hales, Nicola Weston, Tricia Cowan and Alana Porter are among those to drop out.

Bree Beckley returns for Geelong's home game against Darebin at Deakin University. The Falcons have made four changes as they look to bounce back from last week's heavy loss to Casey, with Alyssia Mifsud amongst the inclusions.

Essendon has included Paige Scott, Kodi Jaques and Jade Doonan for its clash with Carlton at the NEC Hangar, where the Bombers will be looking to bounce back after losing their first game in more than a year last week.

Southern Saints have lost Tayla Kearns and Nicki Cormack to injury for their clash with Box Hill Hawks at RSEA Park on Sunday, while the Hawks will be without injured skipper Nicole Garner.

All matches in the 2023 Smithy’s VFL and rebel VFLW seasons will be live streamed free via the AFL website and AFL Live Official App.
