FREMANTLE star Nat Fyfe says Matthew Pavlich has his full support if the veteran wants to captain Fremantle again next season.
Dockers coach Ross Lyon told 3AW last week that a captaincy change was "on the radar" for next year despite Pavlich, who turns 34 later this month, deciding to play on in 2016 after seriously considering retirement at the end of last season.
Dockers players vote on the captain and the leadership group before each season and the next poll won't take place until January.
Lyon said Pavlich could be managed next season and that Fyfe and David Mundy would be possible candidates to take the reins as Fremantle's new skipper.
Fyfe, 24, told Channel Seven on Monday night that he would support Pavlich staying on as skipper if he wanted to continue.
"It's an interesting question," Fyfe said.
"There's a bit of water to go under the bridge, but if he puts his hand up he'll have my full support."
Fyfe said he was over the moon when he found out that Pavlich was going to play on next year.
"I was pretty excited," Fyfe said.
"Pav's been part of the club since I've been there and his leadership and his playing ability is something we really value, and look forward to having next year."
Fyfe has been eased back into pre-season training as he recovers from the broken leg he suffered in the preliminary final loss to Hawthorn.
He had surgery to repair the fractured fibula in his left leg the day after he won the Brownlow Medal in late September.
Fyfe said he had received some positive news from the doctor last week.
"I'm in pretty good health," Fyfe said.
"I had a doctor's scan on Tuesday and got the full tick off from him, so I'll go back into training and build towards Christmas."
Fyfe did some light running and kicking at his first session back at the club on December 1, but he spent most of Monday's main training session in the gym.
