A review of Round 4 in the Coates Talent League Girls.
The action began on Thursday night, with GWV Rebels hosting Geelong Falcons at C.E. Brown Reserve to kick off the Easter weekend. The Falcons lead throughout to claim their second win of the season in a 13-point result. Kirra Robinson and Mekah Morrissy were instrumental, along with Sara Howley (36 disposals) and Chantal Mason (two goals). Molly Walton and Charlotte Hill were best for the Rebels.
Dandenong Stingrays were too good for Gippsland Power in their clash at Morwell Recreation Reserve in the first of four Good Friday matches. The Stingrays extended their advantage in each quarter on the back of strong showings from Mikayla Williamson (26 disposals) and Elli Symonds (23 disposals, one goals). Lilly Leighton and Ahlee Penry were the best players for the Power.
Calder Cannons recorded their second-successive win to start the 2023 season when they powered past Murray Bushrangers at Highgate Recreation Reserve. The Cannons led by 38 points at three-quarter time and finished the game strongly with five goals in the last quarter. Sarah Grunden (three goals), Amy O'Kelly, Amy Gaylor (20 disposals) led the way for the Cannons, while the Bushrangers were well served by Olivia McGie and Ellie Armstrong.
A six-goal performance from Alyssia Pisano fired Eastern Ranges to a 26-point win over Northern Knights at Box Hill City Oval. The haul took Pisano’s tally to 10 majors in two matches, after kicking four in last week’s win over Dandenong Stingrays. Georgia Stubs and Hayley McLaughlin also impressed for the Ranges. Hannah Scott (22 disposals) and Ava Jordan (21 disposals, one goal) were the best players for the Knights.
Oakleigh Chargers scored back-to-back wins by overrunning Sandringham Dragons at RSEA Park. Leading by just two points at half time, the Chargers kicked four unanswered goals in the second half to record a 28-point victory under lights. Emma McDonald, Jacinta Baxter and Jorja Jackson all enjoyed strong performances. For the Dragons, best performers included Annabelle Embelton and Jasmine Shepherd.
Tasmania Devils remain undefeated in 2023 after securing their third win of the season with a 32-point triumph over Bendigo Pioneers on Saturday. The Devils took control in the second term, booting 3.5 to one behind to take a 26-point advantage into the main break. Candice Belbin (21 disposals), Grace White (two goals) and Georgia Clark (20 disposals, 1 goals) were all prominent, while Jemika Douglas and Emma Daley fought hard for the Pioneers.
