The AFL is pleased to announce a new attendance record for the first 10 matches played at the MCG in AFL history.

A huge 661,446 fans have attended the venue across its first 10 matches of the 2023 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.

The previous record was 612,281 set back in 2015.

The announcement comes ahead of the traditional Easter Monday, Hawthorn vs Geelong Cats match starting at 3:20pm AEST.

“The season has started like no other, fantastic footy across the competition, record crowds, and a ladder that is unlike anything seen in recent years.” AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said.

“Today’s final game of the round at the MCG should be great clash between two proud clubs and traditional rivals both looking to kickstart their season, then come Tuesday all roads lead to South Australia for Round Five and Gather Round.”
