A NEW beginning is what Geelong recruit Aaron Black says he needs, after being barely used by North Melbourne over the past two years.

Black had a breakout 2013 and, at the end of that season, the Kangaroos signed him up until the end of 2017.

However, he has played just three AFL games in the past two years, and did not appear at AFL level this year.

The 25-year-old told geelongcats.com.au he was enthusiastic about his move. Geelong traded pick No.92 in exchange for the mid-sized forward.

"Like any job, sometimes you just feel you need a fresh change and fresh start, and that's what I'm looking forward to the most," Black said.

"The good thing is, Geelong is in a very good position and has a great list, so I'm pretty excited about it."

A couple of snapped ligaments in his ankle hampered the West Australian this year, and he was also concussed mid-season.

Black said it was good to know the Cats had faith he could deliver at the elite level.

"It does give you confidence that someone still believes in you, and that you can get out there and make an impact at AFL level. That's what I'm hoping to do," he said.

"I know I've got a lot of work in the pre-season but I'm really looking forward to a new program and really getting the best out of myself."

Black led North Melbourne's VFL affiliate Werribee in the goalkicking this year, with 21 from 11 matches.
