FREMANTLE midfielder Josh Carr has asked the club to send him back to Port Adelaide in October's trade week.

Carr made his intentions clear to senior coach Mark Harvey and general manager of football operations Chris Bond on Saturday, a day after Fremantle's spirited round-22 win over Collingwood closed its season.

The 28-year-old made his debut for Fremantle in 2005 after crossing from the Power, where he played 105 games in five years.

He has represented Fremantle in 83 matches and is out of contract at the end of the year.

Carr was also a key member of Port Adelaide's inaugural premiership side of 2004 and enjoyed other successes, including the pre-season flags of 2001 and 2002 and runner-up in that club's best and fairest award in 2001.

A major reason behind his trade to Fremantle, in exchange for draft selections 11, 27 and 45, was to play alongside his brother Matthew.

Matthew Carr announced his immediate retirement in May, after struggling with leg injuries.

A member of Fremantle's leadership group and a key part of its plans for 2009, Carr's decision is a blow for the club.

"The club made a significant investment four years ago to bring Josh back to Perth, so obviously we are disappointed," Bond said.
