A host of Victoria’s top AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft prospects will again be on show this weekend in the second game of the 2023 Young Guns Series.

The two-game series pits the Young Guns against a selection of the state’s best under 18 boys footballers.

The Young Guns team has been selected by AFL recruiters, with the team comprising players eligible for selection in the 2023 AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft, which will be held on Wednesday, May 31.

All players in the Young Guns squad have been eligible for the AFL Draft prior to this year and were aged 19 or under as of January 1, 2023 with some having since turned 20. The team features prospects who compete in the Coates Talent League Boys as overage players and the VFL.

The second game of the 2023 Young Guns Series will see the Young Guns take on Victoria Country on Sunday, May 14 at IKON Park from 2:00pm.

Among those featured in the Young Guns squad are Gippsland Power forward Ryan Maric and key position trio Will Elliott, Flynn Riley and Clay Tucker.

Last year’s Young Guns squad featured four of the first seven selections in the 2022 AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft, including No. 1 pick Jai Culley.

Victoria Metro and Victoria Country will use the Young Guns Series as a trial ahead of selecting their final squads to compete at the 2023 AFL National Championships - U18 Boys.

The opening game of the Young Guns Series saw Victoria Metro secure a 20-point triumph over the Young Guns in tough conditions at Trevor Barker Beach Oval last Sunday.

Jedd Longmire, Ziggy Toledo-Glasman, Jack Cleaver and Rye Penny featured among the better performers for the Young Guns, while Archer May was lively in the forward line.

The Young Guns will field an unchanged line-up for the second game of the series on Sunday, with Victoria Country set to field a strong team despite being without AFL Academy Boys members Zane Duursma, Archer Reid, Harley Reid, Cooper Simpson, George Stevens and Darcy Wilson.

All five will be part of the AFL Academy Boys camp in Melbourne this week and will feature for Australia U18 in its match against Carlton’s VFL team at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.

Continue below to see the squads for Sunday’s match between the Young Guns and Victoria Country at IKON Park.
