STUART Dew says he's in the dark on Tom Lynch's future and concedes Gold Coast are planning for both possible decisions – to stay or to go – from the restricted free agent.
Lynch, who is preparing for surgery in the next fortnight on his injured PCL, will not play again this season and is yet to inform the Suns of his plans for 2019.
The Suns coach said it would be silly for the club to not consider the possibility Lynch could take up an offer from a Victorian club.
"We've said all along we'd like an answer as soon as possible, but we understand the current environment of AFL," Dew said on Thursday morning.
"We're planning for both ways really, you have to, to do your due diligence as a football club.
"Once we get the answer then we move forward."
Lynch will likely undergo surgery in the next fortnight. He's waiting for cuts on his injured knee to heal first.
The 25-year-old forward has played 131 games for Gold Coast over his eight seasons.
Dew said he had seen no change in demeanour from his co-captain in recent weeks.
"We can only go on his behaviour around the club. I've seen no change, he hasn't wavered.
"As we know, we're in the dark at the moment.
"He's looking forward to his surgery and getting his knee right.
"We'd like to know but where we sit, we're not sure."
Dew said there was no expectation on Lynch to hurry his decision simply because he was no longer playing.
