THE RECRUITMENT of Danyle Pearce as a free agent in 2012 has been a resounding success for Fremantle says coach Ross Lyon, who points to midfielder Stephen Hill as a major benefactor.

Pearce will play his 200^th match on Sunday afternoon at the Gabba. It will be his 46^th straight game for Fremantle after 154 with Port Adelaide between 2005 and 2012.

He was recruited to Fremantle to add a different dynamic to the Dockers' big-bodied midfield.

Pearce was number one for inside 50s at Fremantle in 2013 and has the most inside 50 entries of any AFL player this season.

Lyon said aside from the obvious benefit of his run and long kicking from the wing, Pearce's greatest contribution had been to free up teammate Stephen Hill. 

"We've been thrilled with his addition to us," Lyon said this week.

"He really compliments Stephen Hill. There is no doubt he has helped Stephen."  

"He (Pearce) is certainly a very hard trainer, prepares himself immaculately.

"He has fitted in seamlessly and gives great effort all of the time.

Lyon was unperturbed by the fact that Pearce’s kicking efficiency with those inside 50s and when shooting for goal is under 50 per cent.

Pearce's milestone has crept up quickly and it even caught the man himself by surprise.

"It feels really quick," Pearce said earlier this week.

"I've been fortunate not to have any major injuries. Going into this week, when I did realise it was coming up, (I reflected) a little bit."

The left-footer started his career with a bang winning the NAB AFL Rising Star in 2006, having played seven matches in 2005 after being elevated off Port Adelaide's rookie list.

Pearce is adamant the Rising Star award did not have an adverse impact on his career at Port Adelaide.

"I had a few successful years and then a few much-publicised bad years," Pearce said.

"But we all stuck in there, we all tried our hardest, tried to get the wins and the results but it wasn't happening.

Pearce said he felt fortunate to have been offered to opportunity to play at Fremantle.

"I sat down and looked at everything and was really impressed with the way they played in 2012 and jumped at the chance to play for Ross and it's been a great two years so far," Pearce said.
