As part of Planet Ark's Schools Tree Day, the students of St Andrew's Grammar won the chance to host a VIP tree-planting event at their school with special guests from the West Coast Eagles Football Club lending a hand.
After entering a competition with Toyota WA, the lucky students of St Andrew's Grammar welcomed West Coast players for a Schools Tree Day planting session this afternoon where shrubs donated by Toyota will be planted.
The West Coast players helping out included Sam Butler, Darren Glass, Ashley Hansen, Mark Nicoski, Matt Rosa and Beau Waters.
Skipper Darren Glass said the environment is always at the forefront of the club's community activities.
"The environment is a big part of the West Coast Eagles, obviously Toyota are very conscious of it, as well as St Andrew's Grammar, so it’s great to be out here.
"The build up to the derby can be pretty intense, so it's great that the boys are out here and can take their minds off it, plus it’s a good cause."
Toyota, the West Coast Eagles and Planet Ark encourage people from all age groups and communities across the country to come together and plant trees to repair, revegetate and restore Australia's landscape.
Schools have played an important role in the overall success of National Tree Day and Schools Tree Day, with more than two million volunteers having helped to plant 15 million native plants since the initiative began in 1996.
