Bruce Reid happy his letter was made public: Larkins
Charges against Bruce Reid set to be made public, says Doc Larkins
CHARGES against Essendon club doctor Bruce Reid are likely to be made public on Thursday, according to Reid's close friend and associate Dr Peter Larkins.
Larkins works in close proximity to Reid and spoke to the long-time Bomber medico on Wednesday as the AFL made public the charges laid against Essendon.
Individual charges against Reid, coach James Hird, assistant Mark Thompson and football manager Danny Corcoran were not released.
While Hird said the letter, released by the AFL in isolation was designed to damage his reputation, Larkins said Reid was pleased to have it out there.
"I believe he was happy that letter was made public because it clarified that he was not the bad guy behind this science program," Larkins told 3AW on Wednesday night.
"There are other charges around Dr Bruce Reid's involvement in this which he's got to face and they haven't been made public but I believe they may be made public tomorrow, which will be quite interesting to see the way the AFL is charging a doctor in that role.
"But in the course of the Essendon charges, Bruce Reid's letter, I would've thought, supported his position in a positive way."
Larkins described Reid as having a "very traditional background", of which he made it clear how he felt about the program at Essendon from 2011-12.
"Bruce Reid wants to have his say and we all want him to have his say. And he'll get his microphone day, as I've said to him," Larkins said.
"But at the moment he's still doing it by the book, properly."
