GEELONG VFL coach Matthew Knights has refused to rule out making a return to senior coaching at AFL level, but insists he's happy with his job at the Cats.

 

The former Essendon coach has already tasted success at the Cattery, having led the VFL side to a premiership last season.

 

He joins a handful of names being touted as possible replacements for sacked Melbourne coach Mark Neeld, but Knights is keeping his cards close to his chest.

 

"You always should desire to be a better coach," Knights said on Saturday.

 

"I thoroughly enjoyed my stint at AFL level as a head coach, but at the moment, I must admit, there are plenty of challenges here at Geelong.

 

"I just enjoy coaching full stop. There's no better place to do it than Geelong. What ever happens in the future happens, but I'm really pleased here at the moment."

 

Knights admitted he's relished the chance to work at the Cats, but left the door ajar for further opportunities down the track.

 

"I've only been at Geelong a short time and a lot of the coaches have been here longer. One of the reasons Blake Caracella and Nigel Lappin are still here is because they love coaching at this footy club, and I can't see, at the moment, that changing," he said. 

 

"But there is no surety in footy. Things are going really well at the moment, and I've just got to do a good job, and let everything else take care of itself.

 

"If opportunities down the track, in a year, two years, three years come up you take a look at them, but I'm really happy here at Geelong."
