GARY Ablett is the outright favourite to claim his second Brownlow Medal.

The Gold Coast captain has shared favouritism with Richmond's Trent Cotchin for the past few weeks, but is now the sole favourite at $4.

The biggest bet to have been made on Ablett was $3200 each-way when he was also priced at $4 in August.

Ablett has gone into the count as favourite on three previous occasions - in 2007 when he was priced at $2.30 before losing to teammate Jimmy Bartel, in 2008 when he was again priced at $2.30 before Adam Cooney won and in 2009 when he won as a $3 favourite.

"Although Ablett is outright favourite, this is most open Brownlow market we’ve offered since 1998," TAB Sportsbet's Adam Hamilton said.

"And the favourites haven’t had a great recent record. In fact, Ablett’s win in 2009 was the only win by a favourite in the past five years."

Cotchin began the season paying $51, with Betfair at one stage offering $101 for a win by the Tiger midfielder. If he does salute, he will be the first Richmond player since Ian Stewart in 1971 to win the award.

Swan Josh Kennedy is paying $11 after beginning the season at $501. Collingwood's Dayne Beams also began the season at $501 before coming in to $17.

Magpie Scott Pendlebury is a $2.25 favourite to lead the count after Round 10.
