PORT Adelaide's worldwide search to replace high performance guru Darren Burgess has ended with a selection from its own backyard.

The Power's head of athletic development, Ian McKeown, has been promoted to be the club's head of high performance.

McKeown has filled the role on an interim basis since Burgess joined English Premier League club Arsenal in July.

Originally from Northern Ireland, McKeown joined the Power in October 2012 as its strength and power coach on Burgess' recommendation.

McKeown was appointed the club's head of athletic development in November 2013.

"When Darren came back to Port Adelaide five seasons ago, he phoned me and I jumped at the chance to join him here," McKeown said.

"Darren was always very good at using all of the high-performance team's expertise to make sure it was the sum of all parts not just one person controlling the program.

"Now it's my responsibility to make sure that continues."
