NORTH Melbourne forward Nathan Thompson is in doubt for Friday night’s clash with reigning premier Geelong.

Thompson will have scans on Tuesday to determine if he has damaged the knee he had reconstructed last year after the burly forward pulled up sore following his team’s 31-point loss to the Brisbane Lions on Saturday night.

The 30 year-old is confident he has no serious injury but admitted it had been “a bit of a struggle” against the Lions.

“I’m actually going in to have scans today to make sure it is what we think, which is a little bit of jarring … hopefully I can still come up for the weekend,” Thompson said.

The high-leaping goalkicker missed all of 2007 because of the injury and said he was regularly pulling up sore after matches this season.

Providing his scans are clear, Thompson remains “very optimistic” a couple of days off the track will ensure he takes the field against the Cats on Friday night.

“I don’t think there’s any major damage in there at all,” he said.

“Most weeks I’ve been playing with a little bit of soreness there, and on the weekend [against the Lions] unfortunately it didn’t come up that well and I was well beaten on the night by a good opponent.”

Thompson said he was pleased with his return in 2008, despite his limited return against the Brisbane Lions.

“I think probably in my own mind I’ve been able to play a lot more games than maybe expected and do quite well … on the weekend I just wasn’t able to produce that same output.”
