Mark Thompson has become just the 30th coach in AFL history to reach 100 career wins. The Cats nine point victory over Port Adelaide marked Thompson’s 100th win, coming in his 186th game.

Overall Thompson has won 55% of games (100-83-3) since beginning the coaching journey in 2000. His first game in charge of the Cats resulted in a 22 win over Fremantle at Subiaco.

Only Tom Harley, Matthew Scarlett and Darren Milburn remain from Thompson’s first team, a line up that included the likes of Barry Stoneham, Garry Hocking, Jason Mooney and Glenn Kilpatrick.

After rebuilding the Cats list in his early years, Thompson has guided Geelong to wins in 61 of its last 94 games, including last year’s grand final, making him one of the most successful coaches over the past four seasons.

Now in his ninth season as a senior coach, Thompson earned All Australian coaching honours after taking the Cats to the flag last year.
