WITH weekly price movements and a lack of reliable players priced under $200,000 coming through this year, it has been challenging to make the necessary cash to facilitate upgrades.
Coaches need to think outside the box.
On the podcast earlier this week we discussed the upgrade disguised as a downgrade.
Adam Oxley has been a wonderful servant in our Fantasy teams this season. He went from being a $142,000 defender to peaking at $405,000 last week. A score of 52 saw him drop $7,000 and it’s fair to say it is time to sell after a job well done.
In a perfect world we would be looking to upgrade him to a consistent scoring premium.
Trading Oxley to one of the top six averaging defenders will set you back well over $100,000. Aiming a little bit lower could save you some cash or in some cases, make you some coin.
The upgrade downgrade that could net you a handy $55K is Brodie Smith. The DEF/MID is rocking a very low breakeven of 49 and is likely to consistently score over 70 points per week with the possibility of an average of 80 plus for the rest of the season.
Nick Malceski’s price has dropped $165K since the start of the season and he is close to bottoming out. A couple of recent subs vests would see you make $41,000 if you traded Oxley for him. Malceski is well worth the risk if you think he can get back to his Fantasy best that saw him average 92 last year at the Swans.
The cash made can help upgrade other cash cows who have reached their maximum price for a fallen premium. Cam Ellis-Yolmen or Patrick Cripps to Tom Rockliff could be a good one this week.
Oh, and don’t forget Gary Ablett will be as cheap as ever in a week or two!
The Traders will be discussing all things NAB AFL Fantasy here from 6.15pm AEST. Get the best tips ahead of round 15, ahead of the last Thursday night game of the year.
