The good news is that he’s already back doing fitness work with his Carlton teammates.
Fisher popped the joint out in a training mishap but football manager Steven Icke said he was already back on the track and keeping up his fitness.
“We were doing a tackling exercise and he just fell and unfortunately hit the ground awkwardly and popped his elbow,” Icke said.
“He put his hand down and landed the wrong way, [it was] just bad luck.
“You try to minimise those sorts of things, but we do need to do some competitive and physical training, and risks come with doing that type of training.”
The 24-year-old now has the elbow protected and while he has returned to Visy Park for training sessions, he can’t do any ball work.
“Now that the pain’s gone, he’s in an elbow brace and that controls movement, so he can continue his running and other aerobic work," Icke said.
“He’s probably going to be four to six weeks away from rejoining our program, so the break over Christmas helps. This is a minor setback for Brad and the club."
Despite the injury, Fisher is expected to take his place against Richmond in the season opener on March 26.
A career that started off with plenty of injury worries has turned around in the last couple of years, with Fisher missing just four matches in two seasons.
Fisher has played 91 matches for Carlton since he was drafted at number 72 in the 2002 National Draft, and last season led the Blues mark count with 151.
His average of more than seven marks a game ranked 17th in the AFL in 2008.
