NEW LION Brendan Fevola was pleased to take the win over his old side on Thursday night but admitted to some pre-match nerves.
The build-up to his first official encounter with Carlton had been playing on the colourful forward's mind and it was on the eve of the game that Fevola sought the advice of captain Jonathan Brown.
"He made me a cappuccino and he said, 'How you going big fella?' and I said 'I'm bloody nervous', and I don't get nervous so he sat me down and I don't know what we talked about but I left and I wasn't nervous any more after that," he said.
"I didn't really think about footy last night ... and I just got up and did my normal footy routine today.
"I walked past some Carlton hierarchy (on arrival) but said g'day to them and I moved on and was alright after that.
"I'm just rapt to get one up."
While Fevola was closely guarded by Michael Jamison and restricted to just six kicks, he managed to score with each of them - finishing with 3.3.
Fevola compared the occasion to a finals atmosphere but said there was limited on-field chat between him and his former teammates.
He kicked two goals in the first quarter and one in the second but was held goalless after the major break, while Brown dominated proceedings with seven majors.
"I've got a lot of mates at the footy club and I don't think schoolyard banter is going to make us play any better or any worse," Fevola said.
"Once you cross the line you go about your business and I think that's what the Blues did and they played really well tonight."
Lions coach Michael Voss was delighted with the way Fevola conducted himself ahead of the match and during it.
"He was good, he was fantastic all week," Voss said.
"His lead-up to the game I was surprised, he was very casual. I just think he wanted to get out there and put it all behind him and just get on with it and he did.
"He still had his six shots at goal but he was just superseded by the guy in front (Brown)."
