New West Coast small forward Jarrod Cameron will have his start to pre-season delayed because a mate drove over one of his feet, breaking one of his big toes.

"I was at home opening a gate for a mate and he decided to tap me, and my foot got caught under the car," Cameron told reporters at Subiaco Oval on Tuesday.

Cameron, who joined the reigning premiers last Thursday at pick No.39 in the NAB AFL Draft, recently came out of a moonboot and predicted he was a fortnight away from full training.

Standing at 182cm, Cameron has pace and is clever around goals.

He was eligible to become an Eagle as he was part of the club's Next Generation Academy, but that didn't stop Brisbane from trying to bid on him. 

Had the Lions been successful, the 18-year-old would have joined his elder brother Charlie in the Queensland capital.

The draftee is used to the sledging that comes with having a sibling who is a gun, but isn't bad with his retorts, as he showed Vic Country in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships in June, when he booted five goals.

Asked how he felt when opponents told him he was living in his older brother's shadow, Cameron said he thrived on that sort of attention. 

"When I was playing against Vic Country, they were saying that," Cameron said. 

"I was just like, 'I kicked a bag on you guys, so I wouldn't be piping up'."
