Just months after announcing his retirement at St Kilda’s Rd 22 match against Richmond at the MCG last year, Gehrig nominated for the 2007 NAB AFL Draft. To the delight of all St Kilda fans, he was then re-picked by the Saints following his solid 2007 season, where he kicked 59 goals and finished second at the Club in contested marks (31) and eighth in the Best and Fairest.
Gehrig has since returned to the Cub and with Round 1 less than a week away, all players are preparing for the Saints’ first home game at Telstra Dome this Saturday night against the Swans.
Gehrig is expected to be named in the forward line against Sydney this weekend, and as a playing guernsey is naturally required, Ryley Woods was only too happy to provide her favourite Saint with a jumper.
At St Kilda’s Family Day last Sunday 9th March at Frankston Oval, Ryley was given the opportunity to present Gehrig with his 2008 playing guernsey at the official player presentation and reverse the roles that we all witnessed at the MCG six months ago.
