NORTH Melbourne star Brent Harvey has mixed emotions about his club's involvement – or lack thereof – in Saturday night's Hall of Fame Tribute Match at the MCG.
Harvey, part of Victoria's 30-man squad, is the only Kangaroo in both sides after captain Adam Simpson failed to survive the final announcements.
"I'm actually a little bit disappointed that I'm the only one representing the North Melbourne Football Club over the 60 players still involved," he confirmed.
"We're sitting sixth [seventh on percentage] on the ladder, we finished fourth last year and, to be quite honest, I thought we had a lot of stiff blokes just miss out.
"It would have been great to play with Simmo in such a big game. He would have loved to play as well, he hasn't had the chance to represent Victoria before.
"I know he was pretty keen to play and, as it worked out, he didn't make the final 30. I'm very disappointed for him because I know he and the players around him would have loved for him to play."
However, Harvey won't let it affect his preparations for what he expects will be a "fantastic" game.
The midfielder has voiced his excitement about the opportunity to train with and play alongside some of the best players from the competition's other 15 clubs.
And at some stage on Saturday night, he may think about a figure in the opposition coach's box.
One of the men responsible for forecasting Harvey's opponent on any other week is North Melbourne's Opposition Coach Danny Daly, who will serve as an assistant to Mark Williams and the Dream Team.
"I go into his office every Monday morning to see who my likely opponent's going to be," Harvey said. "This week was a little bit different. Walking in, I said to him 'Are you allowed to talk to me this week?' and he just had a bit of a chuckle.
"I'm rapt for Danny because the work he does, not many people know Danny Daly, but the work he does is exceptional, really first class.
"For him to get a chance to sit beside other coaches and get a bit more experience is going to be great for him."Plenty of tickets are still available for the Hall of Fame Tribute Match from Ticketmaster, either online at ticketmaster.com.au or via the Ticketmaster phone booking service on 1300 136 122.
