MELBOURNE defender Nathan Carroll appears unlikely to be part of his club's NAB Cup campaign after he was suspended by the Demons on Thursday.

A brief statement released by Melbourne said the 27-year-old had shown "a lack of professionalism in preparation for the 2008 season".

The statement said the Melbourne leadership group had sanctioned Carroll to miss the first two senior matches in the AFL pre-season competition as punishment.

On an end-of-season trip in September, Carroll and teammates Brock McLean and Jared Rivers were involved in a fight with Swedish tourists at a nightclub on the Greek island of Ios. Carroll was hit over the head with an object, possibly a bottle.

Less than a fortnight later, the Demons confirmed Carroll and McLean had been involved in a scuffle in Munich while attending German Oktoberfest celebrations.

None of the players were charged over either incident.
