Hawthorn v Western Bulldogs, Etihad Stadium, Friday night

A night of farewells looms, but don't get too romantic in the fantasy footy world. Departing champion Luke Hodge (MID, $13,650) only managed 46 points last week against Carlton, so doesn't hit his final game in brilliant touch. 

But for the final time in 2017, you should be picking Hawks midfielder Tom Mitchell (MID, $17,250). The former Swan racked up 143 points last week, has averaged 127 points for the year and will end the season as the best scorer in the competition.

Jack Macrae (MID, $15,000) has been the best Bulldog of the season and showed why last week with a mammoth 149-point tally. The midfielder has stood tall this year in backing up his premiership season and is by far the best option if you're looking for a Dog.

A few Bulldogs were down last week, including Marcus Bontempelli (MID, $12,850), who scored just 56 points in a season-low effort against Port Adelaide last week. Bontempelli is good enough to stick with despite that performance, while Luke Dahlhaus (FWD/MID, $12,100) is another option after averaging nearly 90 for the season.

Collingwood v Melbourne, MCG, Saturday

Who'd have guessed Mason Cox (FWD/RK, $9150) would be the second-best scoring Magpie last week? Not many. The big American gathered 128 points, but don't back him to do that again – he's averaged 60 for the season and it was the first time he'd passed triple figures. 

Tom Phillips (FWD/MID, $12,400) also hit the century mark after collecting 26 disposals and is a solid mid-range pick if you can't quite afford a top-range midfielder, while Matthew Scharenberg (DEF, $11,600) had his fourth-straight score in the 90s last week so is definitely worth a look in your backline group.

Cameron Pedersen (FWD/RK, $11,700) backed up his best-afield showing last week with another huge effort for the Dees against Brisbane last week, pulling in 123 points. In this type of form, he should absolutely be on your radar, while Jesse Hogan's (FWD, $12,000) six-goal return from injury saw him reach 108 points.

Jordan Lewis (MID, $14,100) and Michael Hibberd (DEF, $13,250) are also sharpening their form as the finals await for the Dees, and both of the club recruits scored in the 90s last week. 

Brisbane Lions v North Melbourne, Gabba, Saturday

The battle of the wooden spoon gives us some quality Draftstars options, mainly in Lions colours. Skipper Dayne Beams (MID, $15,450) picked up another 138 points last week and he's ranked 16th overall for the season, which is pretty good considering he has missed two games.

His midfield mate Dayne Zorko (MID, $15,250) is another gun you can consider. He picked up 125 points against Melbourne last week, while Alex Witherden (MID/DEF, $12,450) returned from injury to gather another 81 points. He has quickly become a fantasy footy favourite.

There has been less to love from a North Melbourne point of view, but Ben Cunnington (MID, $12,800) did stand up last week with 135 points – the highest score of his season and well above his 88-point average. It was impressive but the best Roo remains Shaun Higgins (FWD/MID, $12,950), who scored another 107 points last week. 

Luke McDonald (DEF, $10,700) scored 88 points in last week's loss to St Kilda, and he presents as a solid Draftstars selection.

Sydney v Carlton, SCG, Saturday

It had been a lean run of games for Josh Kennedy (MID, $15,350) before last week's brilliant 130-point tally in the Swans' win over Adelaide. The club's skipper had dropped below 100 in three straight weeks, having hit triple figures seven times in a row before that. Last week was a welcome turnaround in form. 

Kennedy was the only Swan to hit the 100-point mark last round, with Dan Hannebery next best with 98 points. With Hannebery out injured this week, Luke Parker (MID, $14,800) will need to step up. He scored 87 last week but has averaged 97. 

It's been an outstanding season for Sam Docherty (DEF, $15,400) and he's finishing it in brilliant form for the Blues. The defender scored a team-high 143 points last week and is now placed third in the competition for total points.

The usual suspects – Bryce Gibbs (MID, $15,850) and Marc Murphy (MID, $15,200) – were once again excellent against Hawthorn last week, but Blaine Boekhorst (FWD/MID, $9800) surprised by piecing together the best game of his career with 108 points. It'd be a bit of a risk to pick him this week, however, given his 60-point average.

Geelong v Greater Western Sydney, Simonds Stadium, Saturday night

In case you need a reminder, Sam Menegola (FWD/MID, $15,850) is a top-shelf Draftstars pick. The midfielder has been a revelation for Geelong this year, averaging 100 in 18 games as the fourth-fiddle midfielder for the club. Last week, in the absence of Joel Selwood, he stepped up to have a team-high 132 points. 

Mitch Duncan (MID, $16,100) and Patrick Dangerfield (MID, $16,900) did as they always do and scored very valuable 100s last week against Collingwood, while Scott Selwood (MID, $14,650) was again solid with 89 points. Zach Tuohy (DEF, $11,600) also remains a reasonable defensive option with an average of 87.

Josh Kelly (MID, $14,950) got the plaudits last week with his incredible 43-possession game, and he was very nice in the world of daily fantasy as well with 130 points. But our man Lachie Whitfield (MID, $14,250) also picked up 130 points, albeit with less plaudits. He has had a breakout season and is averaging 100 for 2017. Don't forget about him.

One to watch for late in the year is Brett Deledio (FWD, $11,200). The former Tiger has been easing his way back into top level after a long absence, but he scored 82 last week against West Coast and could be a cheaper and good value choice if he can build on that.

Port Adelaide v Gold Coast, Adelaide Oval, Saturday night 

Charlie Dixon (FWD, $11,600) produced one of his best games of the season in Port's win over the Western Bulldogs last week, collecting 112 points. He is in good form, but it was his first century since round 11, so you will have to be mindful of that if he's in your thinking.

There's less risk about Power ruckman Patrick Ryder (FWD/RK, $13,100). The star big man gathered 115 points last week to push his average to 90.8 for the season. Of his past eight games he has only dropped below 88 on one occasion, so he has been a relatively consistent option.

Aaron Hall (MID, $14,650) is about the only Gold Coast player worth looking at. The midfielder backed up his 95 points against Brisbane in round 21 with 110 last week against Essendon in the Suns' defeat. He is inconsistent and prone to a shocker, but he's the best of the Suns lot.

Former Lions star Pearce Hanley (MID/DEF, $12,300) scored 101 points last week against the Bombers in what was his best output since his 121-point effort in round 11. Hanley has endured a tough year on and off the field, so we hope he's back to his brilliant best next year and can finish off 2017 strongly on Saturday night.

Essendon v Fremantle, Etihad Stadium, Sunday

It's been one heck of a second half of the season from David Zaharakis (MID, $15,350). The Essendon midfielder gathered 38 disposals and 130 points last week to bump his weekly average to 99.8. Zaharakis has dropped below 100 just three times since round seven.  

Ruckman Tom Bellchambers (RK, $10,900) took some time to get going in 2017, but has been solid for the Dons. He was excellent last week with 116 points (a season-high), while Dyson Heppell (MID, $15,450) continues to be a good midfield pick after recording his fourth ton in his past five games.

The Dockers are a debacle at the moment so you're best to keep clear of them when selecting your line-up. If you must, Nat Fyfe (MID, $15,050) is the best bet and was the leading scorer in last week's 104-point humiliation at the hands of Richmond. Fyfe scored 95.

Bradley Hill (MID, $12,200) has enjoyed a stellar first season with Fremantle, and last week gathered 93 points – about on his 94-point season average. He's been a reliable choice and we can expect him to finish off the season well on Sunday.

Richmond v St Kilda, MCG, Sunday

The Tigers loaded up last week against a limp Fremantle outfit, with seven centurians and four players scoring more than 120. At the top of the pile was Shaun Grigg (MID, $12,700), who collected 153 points. He's a consistent Draftstars player who can go under the radar.

Toby Nankervis (FWD/RK, $12,750) was also back to the early season form that saw him become a Draftstars mainstay for some coaches. The former Swans big man scored 140 in the ruck and is a valid pick if you are looking for a ruckman capable of big scores who shouldn’t break the bank.

It's been something of a Draftstars resurrection for Luke Dunstan (MID, $13,600) of late. The Saints midfielder is in really good form, scoring five straight centuries in the past five weeks and averaging 110 in that period. Not many would have seen that coming, but he could be an ace in your pack this weekend. 

Jack Steven (MID, $13,400) has been at those heights all year and picked up 117 points last week against North Melbourne, while Jack Steele (FWD/MID, $13,800) has also been consistent. The former Giant collected 110 points and has averaged 92 in a very strong season in Saints colours.

West Coast v Adelaide, Domain Stadium, Sunday 

Brownlow medallist Matt Priddis (MID, $14,200) will hit what might be his final AFL game in good form, having scored 127 points last week against Greater Western Sydney. It was the best score of what's been an underwhelming year from a Draftstars point of view from the generally prolific midfielder.

Elliot Yeo (FWD, $12,900) has been more consistent and taken his game to a new level, and last week picked up 113 points. He's one of only a few Eagles we'd consider in our salary line-ups this weekend. Jack Redden (MID, $13,150) is another, having averaged 96 over the past five games.

The Eagles will want to stop Rory Sloane (MID, $15,900), but we hope they don't. The star Crows midfielder scored a competition-wide high score last round of 153 points against the Swans. He has been troubled by taggers at times, but Sloane has still averaged 111 over the past five rounds. 

Matt Crouch (MID, $14,550) should have jumped close to the top of your must-buy midfielders this season with such a stellar year, while, Hugh Greenwood (FWD/MID, $11,750) has also been a revelation after another 96 points last week. Good call if you had him from the start.
