THREE months into training with his new club, Aaron Young says moving to Gold Coast has rejuvenated his career.

The athletic half-forward was traded by Port Adelaide to the Suns during the off-season after 76 games in seven seasons with the Power.

And just days before debuting in new colours in Saturday's AFLX matches, Young says the change is just what he needed.

"I just feel a bit rejuvenated," he said.

"It's a fresh opportunity. After seven years at one club I was maybe getting a bit stale and getting comfortable.

"It's been good to come to a fresh environment, training is a bit different, different people around you and learning things off different coaches. 

"I just feel rejuvenated as a player and (am) really enjoying it so far." 

Young, 25, fits in with a core of Gold Coast players that should be entering their playing prime, including co-captains Steven May and Tom Lynch, as well as midfield aces David Swallow and Jarryd Lyons. 

After coming from a more mature Port outfit, Young said dealing with a younger list had slightly changed his role. 

"The boys have made it a really easy transition," he said.

"Training is the same. You train hard, go home, eat, sleep, recover and do it again.

"I really enjoy the lifestyle and enjoy working hard with a young bunch of guys keen to improve. 

"There's a lot of young guys in their first three years here, so I've come in and assumed a bit of a different role and tried to help those guys at training with my talking." 

Young is one of the most experienced players in the Suns' AFLX team that will be captained by Touk Miller. 

Sam Day will play his first competitive football in almost a year after dislocating his hip in the opening JLT Community Series game last season, while Kade Kolodjashnij will also line up after missing the final 10 games of 2017 with concussion.
