THE FALLOUT from Tendai Mzungu's nightmare first game with Greater Western Sydney has continued with news that he will miss the first half of the season with a serious hamstring injury.
Mzungu was elevated from the Giants' rookie list on March 17 and was picked to face Adelaide in round one, but tore his left hamstring in the second term and faces 10-12 weeks on the sidelines.
The former Fremantle midfielder has avoided tendon damage, but GWS medical staff are yet to decide on the best course of rehabilitation, and will assess the 31-year-old further in the next week.
An outstanding pre-season, along with injuries to vice-captain Stephen Coniglio (ankle), plus fellow recruits Brett Deledio (calf) and Matt de Boer (hamstring), handed Mzungu his chance on the senior list, but he now faces an almighty battle to force his way back into the Giants' best team later in the year.
In better news for coach Leon Cameron, key defender Aidan Corr could be available for selection to take on Gold Coast on Saturday if his hand stands up to a full week of training.
Corr was injured in the Giants' final JLT Community Series clash with North Melbourne in Canberra and has trained away from the main group with his hand in a brace ever since, but will test it out on the track on Wednesday and Friday.
The 22-year old, who suffered an unusual injury to the capsule at the base of his hand when he landed awkwardly against the Kangaroos, will be a valuable inclusion to help GWS combat big Suns forwards Tom Lynch and Peter Wright.
Elsewhere, power forward Jonathon Patton could be in some doubt for round two after copping a solid knock to his hip against the Crows, but he's likely to be given until Friday to test out the injury.
