A FINALS attendance record has been set, with 700,395 spectators at the nine games in September.
The previous high was established in 2010, when there was a Grand Final replay, with the 651,000 attending that year.
There were five matches with a crowd of at least 90,000 this year. That has happened only one other time, in 1972.
The average attendance across the finals series was 77,821.
AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan was appreciative of the fans' support.

"The 2018 finals series delivered an exciting month of football, culminating in a fantastic Grand Final contest. To have more than 700,000 fans attend over the nine matches is remarkable," hesaid in a statement.
"Witnessing 100,000 at the MCG on Saturday and the many of hundreds of thousands experience the footy festival, we are extremely proud that so many fans could experience Grand Final week.
"The new Optus Stadium in Perth delivered our code and the state of Western Australia a world class venue in every sense, with record attendances for footy in the state at the two West Coast Eagles finals.
"Thank you to our clubs, stadia and venue partners across the country that deliverable a memorable experience for fans across the country."
Total attendance across 2018 was 7,595,165, which was also a record.
