ST KILDA captain Nick Riewoldt has been cleared to play in this week's crucial match against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.

Riewoldt appeared to struggle after sustaining a knee injury in Sunday's loss to the Sydney Swans but St Kilda elite performance manager David Misson said he would take the field after running well on Tuesday morning.

"He's pulled up well. He had a direct knock on his left knee in a marking contest that irritated his medial [ligament] a little bit," Misson said.

"That’s why he came back on with it strapped. It was more a protective thing for his medial. He ran today and ran well. He'll train on Thursday and play."

And the reports were just as glowing for Sean Dempster, who suffered a heavy hit to the head in the dying minutes of Sunday's loss.

Misson said tests had dismissed any concern the Saints had.

"With Dempster, the main issue was a cut over his eye, which he's had some stitches into. Neurogolical testing has all been clear and he should be fine," he said.

Jason Blake has been cleared after corking his thigh, as has Raphael Clarke who appeared to injure his neck.

Zac Dawson and Justin Koschitzke are back to full training after they were late withdrawals with stomach bugs.
