Young Collingwood midfielder's season likely over with finger injury
COLLINGWOOD midfielder Taylor Adams is unlikely to play again this season after scans revealed a torn ligament in his left finger.
The Magpies expect Adams will miss between four to six weeks with the injury, after he hurt his finger in the first quarter of Sunday's gritty six-point win over Port Adelaide at the MCG.
The 20-year-old played out the game, gathering 28 touches for his troubles, but Collingwood director of football Rodney Eade confirmed surgery was needed.
"After the game, the fear was that he'd torn the tendon off the top end of his ring finger on his left hand," Eade told Collingwood's website.
"Having been to the surgeon (confirmed) that is the case.
"He'll have surgery so it’s a four to six-week injury."
The news is better for Magpies tagger Brent Macaffer who has been cleared of any serious damage to his ankle and it is hoped he will be fit to take his place against West Coast on Sunday.
Like Adams, Macaffer played out the game but reported soreness on Monday.
"He's a little bit sore today but is moving OK. There’ll be tests later in the week but we’re reasonably confident he’ll play and be available."
Star midfielder Dane Swan, who has not played since the round 17 clash against Essendon, is progressing well with his plantar fascia issue in his foot, but he is more likely to be available for the meeting with the Brisbane Lions in round 21.
Defenders Alan Toovey and Paul Seedsman should be right to go against the Eagles, but Eade said the pair would be both require fitness tests later in the week.
