After a bruising win over Hawthorn on Monday, Geelong had just five days to prepare for North Melbourne. And that looked a problem in the first half. The Cats' clearance work was well off – 18-26 at half-time – but a very different side emerged from the main break. Firing seven goals to three in the third, the Cats were suddenly back in the game. And having lost the last two after playing Hawthorn, Geelong fought hard in the last quarter to break that trend before it became a hoodoo.
2. Kangaroos forwards short and tall
Drew Petrie set the scene in the first quarter with three early goals. And he proved the most dangerous target in the Roos forward line, with four for the match. Creating further headaches for the Cats, Lindsay Thomas bobbed up to create a damaging partnership, with five goals of his own.
3. Oh brother! Bragging rights to Chris
This is one for the family dinner table. Having entered the game with a win apiece, the battle between Brad and Chris Scott was the sub-plot of the day. Added to that, the game marked Chris' 50th game as coach, so it was fitting that he celebrated the milestone with the four points.
4. Caddy's a cat-like spring
It was one of those moments when the ball sits up perfectly, and Josh Caddy took advantage, jumping all over Scott McMahon. His spectacular mark on the wing was a highlight of the game, and just like a Cat, he landed on his feet.
5. Selwood off, but on at the same time
Joel Selwood spent the first quarter on the wing rather than his usual spot in the centre. Adding to the confusion, he disappeared down the race early, before reappearing, raising suspicions the star midfielder may have been been ill.
It didn't seem to faze him though. The skipper racked up 26 disposals and kicked a goal to help guide the Cats home.
