The hard-at-it midfielder, who has shown solid form in the VFL, has replaced draftee Nick Graham (knee), who is on the Blues' long-term injury list.
It's a case of second time lucky for Cachia, whose first stint with the club was as a rookie in 2010 and 2011.
After being delisted, he spent last year with SANFL club Norwood, where he played in a premiership and finished in the top five in the Magarey Medal.
The 21-year-old (he'll turn 22 on May 8) was the Blues' first pick at No.9 in this year's AFL Rookie Draft.
At the time, Carlton's national recruiting manager Shane Rogers told AFL.com.au he was pleased to give Cachia another chance because he had been "one of the most diligent kids" at Carlton during his first stint at the club.
And the youngster had made "big improvements" since then.
"We think he can have an impact as a big, strong-bodied midfielder. He's a ripping kid," Rogers said.
The Blues have also bolstered their recruiting department after securing former Geelong scout Luke Williams as their recruiting manager. Williams spent 14 years under the Cats' much respected recruiting and list manager Stephen Wells.
"I really loved my time with Geelong and will always have fond memories of what we achieved together," Williams told carltonfc.com.au. "However, I am excited that I can now direct my energies towards helping Carlton achieve success by being part of the recruiting team."
Rogers said Williams's appointment "completes the restructure of Carlton's recruiting team".
"We are very excited Luke has joined us," he said. "He brings with him a wealth of knowledge, having worked in this industry for a long time and having been part of a successful environment," Rogers said. "One of the club's goals is to bring good people to the club and Luke certainly fits the bill."
