TALKING POINTS: After Saturday's win Hawthorn fans could be asking, 'Buddy who?'
1. Roughy rises to occasion
Jarryd Roughead continued his brilliant season, booting five goals in an awesome display. 'Roughy' took six marks inside 50 and also contributed two goal assists while collecting 12 disposals. With speculation rife that the absent Lance Franklin will leave the club next season, Hawthorn supporters ought to be filled with confidence that even without the superstar forward the club's attack remains ominous. Roughead received good support from Jack Gunston (five goals) and Isaac Smith (three), as well as a host of midfielders.
2. Hawks clean on the inside
When it came down to it on Saturday afternoon, the Power just couldn't match Hawthorn's skills. Their effort and heart was there for the most part, but in tight contested situations when the Hawks continually off loaded cleanly, the Power fumbled. Clean possession in tight allowed Hawthorn's loose runners to cash in.
3. Down on defence
Given Power coach Ken Hinkley's love for the defensive, it was surprising to see so many Hawthorn players find open space so easily. Too many times the Hawks were able to break free from a stoppage and have two or three players running clear. Admittedly, the Hawks were a superior outfit, but decreased defence up the ground made it hard for the Power's backmen and Hawthorn forwards were able to find room to take uncontested marks. That's backed up by a 20-to-12 marks inside 50 discrepancy.
4. Gray's goal gaff
Robbie Gray played arguably his best game for the Power since his horrific knee injury in round four last season, but his goal in the second term didn't showcase all his talent – or perhaps it did? Gray crumbed beautifully inside 50 and drew another opponent before messing up the handball over the top. He re-gathered, sold some candy and then went to 'slam dunk' it through before slipping over in the process. He was left grinning lying on his back in the goalsquare as his Power teammates came to share in the hilarity.
5. Lewis' love tap
Port Adelaide's Chad Wingard is undoubtedly one of the competition's most exciting prospects and veteran Hawk Jordan Lewis didn't take long to show him his affection. Early in the opening term Lewis floored Wingard with a sneaky hit to the stomach that left the 19-year-old sucking in some deep breaths. There wasn't much in it and Wingard was fine once he got his breath back, but Lewis might find himself in a bit of hot water for the hit.
