COLLINGWOOD coach Nathan Buckley has left the door open for Harry O'Brien's anticipated return this weekend.
The Magpies' selection committee will sit on Wednesday afternoon and O'Brien's return will be among the key decisions ahead of huge month for the club.
"Harry will come back in the next couple of weeks - if not this week," Buckley said.
"He trained very well [today] and feels well in himself."
O'Brien trained fully on Wednesday, enhancing his prospects of an immediate return.
But whether O'Brien's comeback will be against Greater Western Sydney this Saturday or in the VFL is yet to be determined.
"We will discuss that this afternoon, when we are more aware of where he is at and what he is capable of," Buckley said.
Collingwood will field its strongest side against the Giants this Saturday ahead of matches to follow against Essendon, Sydney and Hawthorn.
"We will get to selection this afternoon and pick the best side available," Buckley said.
"Anything is possible. We clearly haven't given up on our prospects this season. We have six home and away games to go and we want to gradually improve."
Buckley believes there is improvement coming from reigning Copeland Trophy winner Dayne Beams who is two games back into his return from injury, along with Lachie Keeffe and Tyson Goldsack who played their first games back against Gold Coast following long layoffs.
The Magpies will also continue to swing Ben Reid between attack and defence.
Veteran ruckman Ben Hudson is in doubt for the Giants clash after pulling up sore following Saturday's loss to the Suns.
"If he's available, he'll play. He is one of those players we will manage during the week, he is an old body but he has been fantastic for us," Buckley said.
Buckley confirmed that Darren Jolly would not play this weekend despite impressing on the training track and that 2012 draftee Brodie Grundy could make his debut.
"His form in the VFL has been excellent," Buckley said of Grundy.
Jolly's return to training is ahead of schedule along with Dale Thomas, who continues to push for a return before September.
"He [Thomas] did about 8km on the track today. He is still wearing the brace and he still has some work to do but his progress to date has been very encouraging and we couldn't be more impressed with his attitude and how he is going about it," Buckley said.
