UPDATE: Aaron Sandilands and Hayden Ballantyne have been ruled out of next weekend's clash with Port Adelaide
FREMANTLE is hopeful Aaron Sandilands and Hayden Ballantyne will play again before the finals but the club has confirmed the pair will miss this weekend's clash with Port Adelaide.
The Dockers are hopeful Ballantyne will play the following week against St Kilda.
General manager of football operations Chris Bond told the club's website that Sandilands' injury would require surgery to the cheekbone he injured in Sunday's win over Melbourne - but he should be right for the final round of the home and away season.
Scans on Monday confirmed Ballantyne had strained his right shoulder capsule, and the Dockers will take a cautious approach with the 26-year-old ahead of the finals.
Dr Peter Larkins said Ballantyne had suffered a 'sub-luxed' shoulder.
"Ballantynehas a history of dislocation of the right shoulder and he had a partialdislocation at the end of the game," Larkins said.
Larkins said the decision over Hartlett's immediate future on the medical front would centre around when the Power decided to have his shoulder reconstructed.
"Hartlett is more tricky because he completely dislocated it and it had to be put back in, then he went out and played with one arm for the rest of the game," he said.
"He will need a reconstruction at the end of the season at the latest, and it's a question of whether they want to keep playing him because of where they are on the ladder.
"What's worse for Hartlett is he's had it before so he will have torn the repaired tissue.
"My suspicion is he'll require surgery at the end of the year but they might decide to do it sooner."
The Power face Fremantle and then Carlton in their final games.
Larkins also said it was unlikely Richmond's Jack Riewoldt would play against Greater Western Sydney on Sunday after hyperextending his knee and stretching his posterior capsule on Saturday.
But he said Geelong's Steven Motlop could have finished Saturday night's game but the Cats took a precautionary approach with the soreness in his hamstring.
He was subbed out of the game at half-time.
He said they could do a similar thing this week against the Sydney Swans given he could remain vulnerable for another six or seven days to further injury.
