In an indication of how important Hogan is seen to the long-term future of Melbourne, Roos is making the flight across the country less than a fortnight after his appointment as coach.
Hogan is contracted until the end of 2015 and although Melbourne raised the prospect earlier this season of extending his deal beyond the mandated three-year period, it respected the wish of the Hogan camp to wait until pre-season was underway before considering that prospect.
Hogan is understood to be very happy living in Melbourne and excited at the prospect of Roos becoming his new coach.
The club and his management are also very conscious to ensure realistic expectations surround the 18-year-old as he prepares for his debut AFL season.
He is yet to play on the AFL's best defenders and remains untested at the top level.

Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney said the club had agreed mid-year to meet with Hogan's family and management once the coach for 2014 was in place.
Soon after Roos was appointed, they made arrangements to head to Perth.
Mahoney said it was part of the process of ensuring all relevant parties were up to speed with what was happening.
"We see Jesse Hogan as an important part of Melbourne's future," Mahoney told AFL.com.au.
Next week's delegation, which is likely to also include Todd Viney, is more focused at this stage on mapping out what is planned for Hogan in 2014 and beyond under Roos then pressing for a contract extension.
The club will soon make a decision on a senior assistant coach to take over from Roos at the end of his second or third year.
Hogan is one of five West Australian-raised players on Melbourne's list, as well as Mitch Clark, Michael Evans, Dean Kent and Neville Jetta.
The Demons recruited Hogan in the 2012 mini-draft as a 17-year-old, exchanging draft picks to Greater Western Sydney.
He was ineligible to play AFL during 2013 but he showed his talent in the NAB Cup and the VFL. He kicked 39 goals in the VFL with Casey but missed the end of the season due to a knee injury.
