There has been significant pressure from TV networks for the AFL to follow other codes in holding the decider after dark.
But the AFL's second in charge, who is widely tipped to succeed Andrew Demetriou as League boss, has taken the same stance as the incumbent.
"I like it where it is," McLachlan told Gillette Trade Radio on Monday morning.
"The day leads up well to the night, and I have to say I like the 2.30pm bounce down and playing the game during the day."
Saturday's Grand Final was worth potentially tens of millions of dollars for the AFL, McLachlan said.
Many have also called for a curtain-raiser to be played before the Grand Final, to avoid a dead-spot leading up to the pre-game entertainment and match.
But McLachlan said that while it was a good idea in theory, there were too many logistical issues to navigate.
