ADELAIDE has signed former Geelong forward James Podsiadly for two years, after meeting with the veteran in Adelaide on Wednesday.

Podsiadly was delisted by the Cats following the home and away season.

At West Lakes he will be reunited with Adelaide coach, Brenton Sanderson, a former Geelong assistant coach.

He'll provide an immediate target in Adelaide's attack and help ease the load on key forward Taylor Walker.

Walker missed most of 2013 with a knee injury.

Podsiadly said he had no concerns over his ability to play at the highest level, despite turning 32 in September.

“From a physical and mental point of view, I’m in great shape and very motivated to continue my improvement in the AFL," he said.

"I want to continue to work on my game with the Adelaide coaches and become a better player," he said.

“The most attractive aspect [of the move to Adelaide] was the way [Adelaide list manager] David Noble and the club presented their vision of where they want to take this group.

“I’m excited about starting the pre-season in a new state, at a new club and with a new group of guys. I can’t wait to get over there and get started.”

Noble agreed that Podsiadly had plenty of high quality football left to play and that his proven ability to take contested marks would bode well inside 50.

“James has plenty of good footy left in him. He is a strong contested mark and a proven goalkicker, who will add firepower to our forward line, and can also play in defence," he said.

“He’s an experienced, premiership player from a highly-successful football environment. We see James playing a similar role to Ben Rutten in terms of mentoring our key-position players.”

Player manager Nick Gieschen, fresh from seeing his client Dom Tyson move to Melbourne on Friday morning, was quick to endorse the Podsiadly move to Adelaide on SEN.

"It's great for Podsy to continue his AFL career at his age and he's still got a lot of footy to be played.

"He came into the game late so he's body is still really fresh and sound.

"Hopefully he can have a big impact next year at the club."
