Port Adelaide lands Jared Polec in complex three-way deal
Complex deal involving GWS, Lions needed to seal Polec's move
PORT Adelaide has secured young midfielder Jared Polec from the Brisbane Lions in a complicated three-way deal that landed Greater Wester Sydney another first round pick in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft.
After the Power and Lions could not facilitate a two-way deal, GWS made the trade possible by involving its back-to-back second round selections (No.21 and No.22 overall).
The Giants traded pick No.21 to the Power and No.22 to the Lions, receiving No.14 from Port and No.29 and No.48 in return from the respective clubs.
To finalise the deal, Port Adelaide sent pick No.34 to the Lions in exchange for pick No.45.
"While we realise he has areas to work on we think Jared will he an excellent addition and his strengths complement our playing list," Power football manager Peter Rohde said.
"He has good skills and speed and adds more depth to our team.
"Jared will now join the (playing) group for the pre-season camp in Dubai which will give him an excellent opportunity to build on his fitness and earn the respect of his teammates."
Polec was recruited with pick No.5 in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft, but the Lions finished the deal with picks No.22, No. 34 and No.48 in return for the talented midfielder and pick No.34.
The 21-year-old only played 16 games in three seasons, effectively cutting his value once he requested a trade home and nominated the Power as his preferred club.
The Lions then finalised a deal sending Elliot Yeo to West Coast for pick No.28.
Billy Longer is pushing for a trade to St Kilda, while Pat Karnezis could join Collingwood in a straight swap for Jackson Paine.
