CARLTON has confirmed that Stephen Kernahan will relinquish the club presidency at the end of next season.
As part of a succession plan devised at the Blues' board meeting on Monday night, Kernahan's successor is likely to be either Ryan Trainor or Mark LoGiudice, who were appointed vice-presidents.
Carlton patron Jeanne Pratt will be the club's third joint vice-president.
Both presidential candidates appear to have strong claims to the top job.
Trainor, a Blues board member for a year, is an entrepreneur who has established several companies, including Franklyn Scholar, Australia’s largest private workforce education business.
LoGiudice, a lifelong Carlton supporter, is the managing director of investment and development company Crawfords Group, and a director of Premier Fruits Group.
Kernahan has been president since June 2008, when he agreed to take on the role after Richard Pratt stood down.
The club great will guide the Blues through their 150th year, and regards it as an honour.
“It is a privilege to lead such a proud football club and I look forward to working with the board and senior management to build on the momentum we have established, especially in the last 12 months,” Kernahan told carltonfc.com.au.
“This is a united board with great experience and expertise in a vast array of fields, and I am honoured that the board wanted to me to lead us into next season.”
