KEY MELBOURNE youngster Jesse Hogan appears to have escaped serious damage after a training mishap on Friday.

Shudders went through the Melbourne camp after Hogan left the training track with what appeared to be a nasty looking knee injury.

The 18-year-old forward landed awkwardly after a marking contest and limped off the track in obvious pain.

Despite early concerns, Hogan has since been cleared of serious knee damage.

The big guns: Patton v Hogan v Daniher v Boyd

"Jesse had an incident at training today where he jarred his knee. He has since been cleared of any major damage," Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney told AFL.com.au.

The Dees believe Hogan will be sidelined for 1-2 weeks with the injury.

The young West Australian was perhaps the brightest news in a bleak 2013 for the Dees, despite not playing an AFL game.

The Demons recruited Hogan in the 2012 mini-draft as a 17-year-old, exchanging draft picks to Greater Western Sydney.

He was ineligible to play AFL during 2013 but he showed his talent in the NAB Cup and the VFL. He kicked 39 goals in the VFL with Casey but missed the end of the season due to a knee injury.

Shortly after his appointment as Melbourne coach, Paul Roos flew to Perth to visit Hogan to discuss his plans for the youngster and Melbourne.

Hogan is contracted until the end of 2015.
