FORMER Melbourne player Liam Jurrah would "love" to be back playing in the AFL again, but acknowledges he has plenty of challenges ahead.

Jurrah was delisted by the Demons at the end of 2012, a year in which he was charged with assaulting his cousin Basil during a brawl in an Alice Springs town camp. 

He was unanimously acquitted of all charges by a jury in March 2013 after a two-week trial. 

Jurrah appeared in an Alice Springs Magistrates Court last week after being charged by police for provoking a high-speed car chase in Alice Springs. His case was adjourned until April. 

He has also spent time in and out of hospital for an unknown medical condition.

But the 25-year-old had his mind on football on Thursday night, turning out to watch his Melbourne teammates go through their paces in a training run at Traeger Park in Alice Springs.

A number of Jurrah's former Demons teammates shook hands and chatted with him before training.

Jurrah told AFL.com.au it was "amazing" to see some of his friends again.

"It's pretty amazing to see the boys training and a couple of the boys were coming up to me which was great," Jurrah said.

Jurrah will attend Melbourne's Friday night NAB Challenge match-up against Geelong and said he was looking forward to seeing the Demons play.

He refrained from singling out his favourite player but said he hopes Demons high-flyer Jeremy Howe takes a "hanger" against the Cats.

Jurrah is set to line-up for local team the South Kangaroos, coached by Darren Talbot, in Alice Springs when the NT's football season starts up again.

When asked whether he would like to return to the AFL field one day, the spring-heeled forward said: "I'd love to, but it's going to take a long journey to get back to where I want to be."
